Dr. Arbet-Engels joined Altimmune in October 2025 as Chief Medical Officer. He brings more than 30 years of experience in strategic global drug discovery, development, and commercialization across gastroenterology, cardiovascular-metabolism, neurology, oncology, and rare and orphan diseases.

He previously served as CMO at X4 Pharmaceuticals, Neurogastrx, Millendo Therapeutics, and Poxel Pharmaceuticals, and held senior positions at Biogen, Boehringer-Ingelheim, Hoffmann-La Roche, Merck Research Laboratories, Aventis, and Ligand Pharmaceuticals — leading development and launch of blockbuster therapies including LANTUS and JARDIANCE.

He has also served in research and educational roles at The Salk Institute, University of Paris VI, and the Assistance Publique, Hospitals of Paris. He received his MD and PhD from the University of Paris and his MBA in Finance from Rutgers University.
