Alina Allen
MD, MS

Dr. Allen completed Internal Medicine training and served as Chief Resident at Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. She then moved to Rochester, Minnesota, to complete Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellowship training followed by an Advanced Fellowship in Transplant Hepatology at Mayo Clinic, where she was recruited to the staff after graduation in 2015.


Dr. Allen is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of the Hepatology Group and Director of the MASLD Clinic in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Mayo Clinic. She is an NIH-funded investigator in the field of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), with clinical expertise in liver diseases before and after liver transplantation. Her research interests include the development of noninvasive biomarkers for the diagnosis of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), as well as pathways to improve the identification and management of patients with MASLD. Her research program includes biorepositories and biomarker databases, longitudinal population-based studies of natural history, and clinical trials. She is actively involved in national societies and currently serves as Chair of the MASLD Special Interest Group within the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. She is also an Associate Editor for Hepatology.
