
Domenica Rubino is the founder and Director of the Washington Center for Weight Management & Research in Arlington, VA, a comprehensive weight-management program utilizing a multidisciplinary team for the care of the individuals with obesity.
Dr Rubino is board certified in Obesity Medicine, Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism, and Internal Medicine and has received training in both clinical and molecular biological research at the US National Institutes of Health. She is currently a clinical investigator for Amgen, Astra Zeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim and Novo Nordisk. She has over 25 years of experience in the care of the individual with obesity and has served as a principal investigator, including signatory for several, overseeing more than 50 clinical trials in pharmacotherapeutic development for the treatment of obesity.
She currently serves as a clinical expert on the treatment of obesity for several professional committees and as a consultant for Novo Nordisk, Boehringer Ingelheim, Regeneron, Astra Zeneca, Amgen, Abbvie, Neurocrine Bioscience, Lilly, Shionogi and Roche. Dr. Rubino participates in several steering committees, chairing several and has also served as a representative to Congress and outside organizations for The Obesity Society. Given her extensive experience as both an involved trialist and clinician she has recently focused on clinical trial optimization for participants and sites. She has been an invited speaker for a wide range of presentations, including continuing medical education, medical societies, corporate educational symposia, and government-sponsored activities.
Dr Rubino has received several investigator awards, and has published articles in peer-reviewed publications including JAMA, Lancet, International J Obesity, Post Graduate Medicine, Obesity, European Journal of Endocrinology, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism and Diabetes, and Obesity and Metabolism. She contributed a chapter on ‘Biopsychosocial Modifiers of Obesity’ for the textbook entitled Bariatric Endocrinology, published by Springer Verlag. Dr Rubino’s career has been focused on understanding the complexity of obesity and applying it to the optimal care of and advocacy for individuals with obesity.
